Knock Out by Catherine Coulter June 23, 2009 jjmachshev (Grovetown, GA) 9 out of 13 found this review helpful
Yes indeedy, I do like Catherine Coulter's 'FBI' series starring agents with grit, smarts, a kicka$$ computer, humor, and the occasional 'gifts'. "Knock Out" is her latest novel set in the world of Savich and Sherlock and it is...a knock out.
This time Savich and Sherlock are working two cases at the same time. The first involves a gang of vicious bank robbers who kill security guards for no reason other than 'fun'. The second involves a special girl named Autumn, who first speaks to Savich in his sleep. Autumn is being hunted for her 'talents' by a paranormal cult group who have named themselves after a devil-worshiping 1500s cult. So which case will be important? When it comes down to it, do you rescue one small girl on the run or hunt down two indiscrimite killers?
I'm not sure which group of 'bad guys' were creepier. Both could be classified as 'nutjobs' (that's the clinical term doncha you know), but both treated the lives of others as 'cheap change'. I'm wondering if we'll see more of Autumn in a later novel (which I would LOVE to read); or quite possibly one of the characters from the cult who may have gotten away.
"Knock Out" grabbed me from page one and the action never slowed. There's no real romance or sex in Coulter's recent FBI novels, but that doesn't affect my enjoyment one bit. She almost always manages to throw me a few curveballs that I never saw coming and yet when I'm finished, I can only wonder how I didn't catch on before! Her characters are real to me and their dilemmas and reactions make me think. Smart, sexy, action mysteries. Is that a genre? If it's not, it should be and Catherine Coulter is an author that needs to be at the top of the author list for it. If you enjoy hold-your-breath action, well-plotted mystery, and a little 'woo woo'; and you have a few hours to read...grab "Knock Out" and tune out the world.
super thriller June 18, 2009 Harriet Klausner 5 out of 8 found this review helpful
FBI agent Dillon Savich is on line in a bank when robbers enter with guns blazing. They have done this before killing guards and customers. This time Savich kills three of the robbers. As Lissy escapes, with the help of the getaway driver, she vows to kill Savich for killing her mom. However, she is caught and taken to a hospital for her injuries. Victor, using an FBI badge, frees her.
Savich and his FBI partner wife Lacey Sherlock tries to help Titusville Sheriff Ethan Merriweather protect Joanne Backman and seven-year-old Autumn, who is a strong telepath from her odious Uncle Blessed who can control minds when he looks into a person's eyes. Autumn contacted Savich telepathically. The Feds capture Blessed, but he escapes. He plans to abduct his niece to take her to a place where her psychic skills can grow to the point where the cult he founded can use her. Meanwhile Savich and Sherlock return to DC where Lissy and Victor have surfaced. As soon as they leave, Blessed grabs Joanne and Autumn. Only a miracle might save the pair from being Blessed.
All of Catherine Coulter's thrillers are excellent, but this one is special as the heroes are caught with conflicting cases. Both subplots are fully developed so that the audience understands the internal strife Savich especially feels as he and Sherlock want to capture the deadly bank robbers as well as Blessed; the laws of physics make achieving both impossible. Autumn will win the hearts of the audience from the moment she mentally contacts Savich after seeing his heroics on TV. Whereas the Lisa-Victor story line is typical of an FBI thriller, Autumn is refreshing as an ESP element augments the entry. Readers will enjoy S&S and want Autumn to return to assist them on a future case; if she survives her uncle.

Knock Out March 31, 2010 John W. Waters (Grand Blanc, MI, US) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
You know its a great read when you are finished in 2 sittings and feel bad that it ended so soon. Third book I've ordered thru Amazon arrived within the time quoted and book-price was less than
local retailers.
Great book, would buy from this seller again July 4, 2010 C. Pomeroy (Dallas, TX) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Catherine Coulter does it again. This is a great book and the FBI series is fantastic. I would put this series on the level of Nora Roberts IN DEATH series. Definitely not a gruesome as IN DEATH, but, fast paced and interesting. Coulter has some interesting plots with twists and turns. Seller is one of the better ones.
Savich & Sherlock return - Good Read June 20, 2009 T. Taylor (Lafayette, CA USA) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
This book is not real heavy on romance, but it does make up for that in suspense. The interesting thing about this book is the dual plot lines (FBI/bank robbers and FBI/psycho) that intermesh. Poor Dillon is stuck in the middle of both.
Autumn, the 7 year old, sends telepathic messages to Savich because she needs a hero. The local sheriff finds her hiding in his home (Ethan). Autumn's mother Joanna trusts no one. Suffice it to say, they work it out. Savich and Sherlock become involved in trying to catch the villan.
There are shoot outs and chases, if that's what you like, but most importantly the good guys win!
Coulter is one of my "go to" authors - her pace is fast and you can always find humor in her books. This was a good one!
